2011-2012 Projects
For 2011-2012, Custom Ag Solutions is partnered with the United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Risk Management Agency (RMA) on the following Risk Management Education (RME) and Research and Development (R&D) projects:
  • Crop Insurance Education for Massachusetts Producers, funded under RMA's Targeted States Partnership Program.  For this project, CAS is currently working with the following organizational partners:

o   Cape Cod Cranberry Growers Association;

o   Connecticut-Massachusetts Tobacco Growers;

o   Massachusetts Aquaculture Association;

o   Massachusetts Farm Bureau Federation;

o   Massachusetts FFA Association; and,

o   NOFA/Massachusetts.

  • Regional Risk Management Projects, funded under RMA's Risk Management Education and Outreach Partnerships Program:

o   Billings, MT, Region: Training in Pasture, Forage, Rangeland, Other Crop Insurance Programs, and marketing Strategies for New and Beginning, Native American, and Other Producers and Ranchers in RMA's Billings, Montana Region.

o   Davis, CA, Region: Training in Pasture, Rangeland, Forage, Specialty Crop and Other Crop Insurance programs for New and Beginning, Hispanic, and Other Producers and Ranchers in RMA's Davis, CA Region.

o    Jackson, MS, Region: Training in Marketing Strategies, Specialty Crop Insurance, and Other Crop Insurance Programs for New and Beginning, Specialty Crop, and Women Producers in RMA's Jackson, MS Region.

o   Oklahoma City, OK, Region: Training in Pasture, Forage, Rangeland, Other Crop Insurance Programs, and Marketing Strategies for New and Beginning, Native American, Women and Other Producers and Ranchers in RMA's Oklahoma City, OK, Region.

o   Springfield, IL, Region: Training in Farm Management Strategies, COMBO, and Other Existing Crop Insurance Programs for New and Beginning, Limited Resource and Women Producers and Ranchers in RMA's Springfield, IL Region.

o   St. Paul, MN, Region: Training in Farm Management Strategies, COMBO, and  Other Existing Crop Insurance Programs for New and Beginning, Limited Resource, and Women Producers and Ranchers in RMA´s St. Paul, MN, Region.

o   Topeka, KS, Region: Training in Pasture, Forage, Rangeland, Other Crop Insurance Programs, and Marketing Strategies for New and Beginning, Women, and Other Producers and Ranchers in RMA´s Topeka, KS, Region.

o   Valdosta, GA, Region: Training in Pasture, Rangeland, Forage, Other Existing Crop Insurance Programs, and Marketing Strategies for New and Beginning, Women, and Other Producers and Ranchers in RMA´s Valdosta, GA, Region.

 

  • During 2011-2012, CAS is also a partner on the following USDA/RMA projects: 

o   Crop Insurance Education for Delaware Beg. Producers (Delaware Dept of Agriculture);

o   Crop Insurance Education for New Hampshire Beg. Producers (NH Cooperative Extension);

o   Crop Insurance Education for Rhode Island Beg. Producers (University of Rhode Island);

o   Crop Insurance Education for Utah Producers (Utah State University Extension); and,

o   Crop Insurance Education for Wyoming Beg. Producers (UW Cooperative Extension).

  • Development of LRP and AGR-Lite Decision Support Tools for Livestock Producers (AGR-Lite.com).  Researchers from Kansas State University's Department of Agricultural Economics are partnered with CAS on this project.


Under the above-noted projects, risk management and crop insurance education workshops are being delivered to beginning producers in the following states during the 2011-2012 project year: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.  With additional workshops being delivered in Florida (livestock producers), New York (Christmas tree growers), and Texas (livestock producers), CAS will work in 35 states during the 2011-2012 project year.
