CAS's Ryan Mangus recently visited the Cornhusker State to deliver “Farming is Risky Business: Risk Management and Crop Insurance Information for Nebraska Beginning Producers” at the 87th Nebraska State FFA Convention April 8-10, 2015. The convention, held this year at Pinnacle Bank Arena, the hotels in Lincoln's Haymarket, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln East Campus, honors Nebraska FFA members and chapters for accomplishments throughout the year. FFA members also attend the convention to attend leadership workshops and compete in leadership skill events.
Mangus presented two workshops to nearly 100 attendees to the annual gathering of ag education students. Participants learned about the difficulty of managing risk in a farming operation and the challenges of production and price risk and methods to manage such risk. The content focused on basic risk, risk management and crop insurance principles. Several “hands-on” examples helped demonstrate to attendees that crop insurance can be an important tool for managing agricultural risk.
CAS thanks the Nebraska FFA for their efforts and help to coordinate the presentation.
